MOXA TCF-142-RM 2-Port RS-232/422/485 to Fiber Converter for NRack System
The MOXA TCF-142-RM Series is a serial-to-fiber slide-in module designed for the MOXA NRack System, including the TRC-190 rackmount chassis. It converts RS-232, RS-422 or RS-485 serial signals into optical fiber communication, allowing serial devices to communicate across significantly longer distances while reducing the effects of electromagnetic and radio-frequency interference.

Designed for the MOXA NRack System
The TCF-142-RM is different from the standalone TCF-142 converter because it is built as a slide-in module for the MOXA NRack System. It can be installed into compatible rackmount chassis such as the TRC-190, enabling multiple serial-to-fiber modules to be deployed in a centralized rack environment.
The TRC-190 chassis provides 19 module slots for compatible media converter modules, including TCF-142-RM serial-to-fiber modules. This architecture is useful for high-density installations where multiple serial and fiber connections need to be organized in a rack.
RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485 Support
The TCF-142-RM supports three widely used serial standards: RS-232, RS-422 and RS-485. RS-485 supports both 2-wire and 4-wire configurations, allowing the module to accommodate different industrial serial communication requirements.
Long-Distance Fiber Communication
Depending on the selected model, the TCF-142-RM can extend serial communication up to 5 km using multi-mode fiber or up to 40 km using single-mode fiber. Multi-mode versions use 850 nm optical transmission, while single-mode versions use 1310 nm.
Point-to-Point and Fiber-Ring Transmission
The TCF-142-RM supports both point-to-point and fiber-ring transmission. This provides flexibility for distributed industrial serial networks where devices may be located across different areas of a facility or infrastructure.
Automatic Baudrate Detection
The module supports automatic baudrate detection, allowing serial communication to continue when the connected device's baudrate changes. For RS-485 communication, Moxa's ADDC automatic data-direction control helps manage transmit and receive direction without requiring an additional handshaking signal.
