The Cisco UCS-FI-M-6324 UCS 6324 Fabric Interconnect is a compact enterprise networking module designed for the Cisco UCS Mini infrastructure. Unlike traditional rack-mounted Fabric Interconnects, the UCS 6324 is an in-chassis Fabric Interconnect that fits directly into a compatible Cisco UCS 5108 Server Chassis.

The UCS-FI-M-6324 combines server connectivity, Ethernet networking, Fibre Channel, FCoE, and centralized UCS management into a compact solution. It provides 4 external unified SFP+ ports, 1 × 40Gb QSFP+ scalability port, and 16 internal 10GbE server links, with up to 500 Gbps throughput.

Compact Cisco UCS Mini Fabric Interconnect

The Cisco UCS 6324 Fabric Interconnect was developed for organizations that need Cisco UCS capabilities in smaller data centers, remote offices, branch locations, and edge computing environments. It forms the management and communication backbone of a UCS Mini deployment, allowing connected servers and infrastructure components to be managed as a unified system.

Its in-chassis design helps reduce the amount of external networking equipment and cabling required compared with a conventional UCS deployment.

4 Unified SFP+ Ports and 40Gb Scalability

The Cisco UCS-FI-M-6324 includes four external SFP+ ports that can support 1Gb/10Gb Ethernet, FCoE, or Fibre Channel depending on the installed transceiver and configuration. Cisco documentation specifies support for 2/4/8Gb Fibre Channel through compatible Fibre Channel SFP interfaces.

It also includes one 40Gb QSFP+ scalability port. With the appropriate QSFP licensing and supported breakout configuration, this port can provide additional connectivity for compatible UCS infrastructure.

16 Internal 10Gb Server Connections

One of the main features of the UCS 6324 FI Module is its 16 internal 10GBASE-KR server lanes. These internal connections allow the Fabric Interconnect to communicate directly with compatible server infrastructure inside the Cisco UCS 5108 chassis.

Cisco lists the 6324 as supporting up to 7 rack servers with a single UCS 5108 chassis, or up to 4 rack servers when a second UCS 5108 chassis is connected, depending on the specific UCS configuration.

Cisco UCS Manager Integration

The Cisco UCS-FI-M-6324 works with Cisco UCS Manager to provide centralized management of compatible UCS infrastructure. Servers, networking, and management resources can be controlled within a unified management domain instead of being managed as completely separate components.
